it remains my view
.. on which i stand to be corrected ..
that  

the argument
for
manufacturing and production
as a catalytic factor
for
moving an economy forward

necessarily

has to

factor into it's own averment, :

(1) what exactly it means
IN REAL TERMS
by
the terms manufacturing and production
WITH SPECIFIC REGARDS TO
THE SPECIFIC NATIONAL ECONOMY
and / or
THE SPECIFIC NATIONAL ECONOMIES IN DISCOURSE 

for example,
some people aver that

there is NO PRODUCTION IN THE NIGERIA ECONOMY

and/or

that NIGERIA IS NOT A PRODUCING ECONOMY.

let us look at that/those statements a little bit. 

For a start,
NIGERIA PRODUCES SEVERAL MILLIONS? OF BARRELS OF CRUDE OIL. 

is that PRODUCTION OF BARRELS OF CRUDE OIL NOT A PRODUCTION PROCESS ?

if the argument is that

NIGERIA DOES NOT PRODUCE A HIGH VARIETY OF FINISHED GOODS 

or that

NIGERIA DOES NOT PRODUCE A HIGH RANGE OF FINISHED GOODS

and/or that

NIGERIA DOES NOT PRODUCE A HIGH QUANTITY OF FINISHED GOODS OF A TYPE E.G
AEROPLANES,
HELICOPTERS,
ARMOURED TANKS,
CARS,
ETC

these are different arguments and we can look at them objectively.

However,
for now in passing,

is
a CARPENTER
who produces
SETTEE SEATS AND POLISHED WOOD TABLES
A MANUFACTURER OF FINISHED GOODS 
OR
A PRODUCER OF FINISHED GOODS
OR NOT ?

(2) the critical need
to explain to the less discerning
that

whatever is manufactured or produced
MUST BE SOLD
i.e
MUST BE PAID FOR
ie
MUST BE BOUGHT AND PAID FOR

BY SOME ENTITY

before it can generate revenue
for/to
the manufacturer or producer 

otherwise

it remains as

inventory
i.e 
stock
i.e 
items in the warehouse or store

of the manufacturer or producer 

and if
for example 

SEGOS PUMPKIN a.k.a RESEGO TSHABADIRA

it remains in the warehouse for 50 years
without being sold

THEN
FOR THAT ENTIRE 50 YEARS 

IT HAS EARNED NO REVENUE 

AND 

THE COSTS INVOLVED IN IT'S MANUFACTURING
AND
THE COSTS INVOLVED IN IT'S STORAGE ( if any )

HAVE NOT BEING RECOUPED. 

i will leave to the reader to conclude if
such a product or item
has not made/become
a waste of the costs incurred
in
it's manufacturing or production in the first instance.
